COVID Information Update – August 30, 2021

August 30, 2021

Hello Dunham Families,

There have been many questions regarding COVID-19 symptoms, protocols, and what to do if a student has COVID-19 symptoms. I wanted to shed some light on the required steps.

Below are the most common COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Fever or Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Do not send a child to school that has ANY of the above symptoms of COVID-19 and immediate testing is recommended.  Students and staff with COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home and testing is recommended ASAP.  Proof of a negative COVID-19 test will need to be provided prior to returning to school.

A symptomatic person who declines testing must provide proof of an alternative diagnosis from their healthcare provider or they should complete ten days of isolation,  beginning the day after symptoms’ onset, and meet isolation release criteria (see attachment) prior to returning to school.

If a student or staff member receives a negative PCR test result after symptoms, they can return to school once the results have been provided to the school.

In the case someone receives a negative PCR test result, and provides proof to the school, but still has illness symptoms, they should be symptom free for 24 hours, without fever reducing medication, before returning to school for most cases.

This information is the simplified version of requirements but there are multiple COVID-19 symptoms, exposure and isolation / quarantine scenarios.  Linked below are the most recent updates from the State and County for schools covering COVID-19 scenarios and the most current quarantine protocols, please take the time to look them over.
