Friday Folder – January 8, 2021

(We had some technical difficulties last Friday – Here is the Friday Folder)

January 8, 2021

Dear Dunham Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful winter break.  I know this year has been different in most facets of life.  Hopefully you had a little down time or were able to make some positive memories with your loved ones.  We had a successful first week back at school. Thanks for all the support that you all have been providing your children.

It is school registration time!  If you have a future TK or Kindergartener at home that is either turning 5 by September 2nd 2021 (for Kindergarten) or turns 5 between September 2nd to December 31st, 2021 (for TK), please call the office so we can make sure we have a spot for them in our next year classes.  Also, we have room for students in all grades.  As you know, Dunham is a unique and great place to go to school.  Our campus, culture, programs, staff, community, families and traditions make for an exceptional educational experience.  If you have a family member, friend or neighbor that is looking for a school send them our way.  We’d love a chance to meet with them and further discuss our wonderful school. We appreciate your support.

Last Wednesday, some alarming events took place in Washington, DC.  Just as it was the case for adults, our students likely had a wide range of reactions to them.  Younger students may not have even been aware of the incident or may have only wanted to acknowledge that they knew of it.  Older students likely would be more aware of what happened.

We wanted to offer some resources to help families that might be having conversations at home about last week’s events.  Our County Superintendent, Steve Herrington shared the following resources for families.

Talking with Your Children After Tragedy from the Sonoma County Office of Education

Also, the Marin County Superintendent, Mary Jane Burke, shared the following resource for families.

Helping Children Navigate Scary News from the Public Broadcasting System

These are good resources and I hope they are helpful.  Being a parent and knowing when to say something and when not to say something and how to say something to younger children is one of the most difficult jobs there is.

Our PTO will be hosting Swirl Time Dine and Donate on Tuesday, January 12.  Please see below for additional information.  Also below is more information about the upcoming PTO Meeting and School Board Meeting as well as information regarding a community resource with the Girls Scouts.

We continue to monitor county and state public health guidelines in hopes of a safe return to campus.

Take care,

Daniel Hoffman

Superintendent / Principal
