Dear Dunham Families,
Governor Newsom and the State Legislature have recently approved a new law (AB/SB 130) which makes full-time and “in-person” instruction the norm for next year.
The CDC, California Dept. of Public Health, and American Academy of Pediatrics have each made clear that the return to in-person instruction is not only safe but is the best thing we can do for our kids.
Many of the safety measures that were in place last year will continue this year, including hand-washing/hand sanitizing and required masking for all students and staff (while indoors).
We know that some families may still be concerned about the return to in-person school. For those who are unable to return to campus due to their health being put at risk by in-person instruction, AB/SB 130 requires that we offer an “Independent Study” option. Details about this option are still coming from the State, but it is clear that there will be significantly less online interaction with a teacher than was required last year.
For TK-3, Independent Study students can expect approximately one hour or less per day of Zoom with a teacher.
For Grades 4-6, Independent Study students can expect approximately 1 hours per week of instruction on Zoom with a teacher.
Students doing Independent Study will require significantly more help at home than what you experienced last year. Independent Study is not distance learning. Distance learning is no longer offered.
Please complete the survey by clicking here by Monday, August 2nd, if you believe that your family will opt for an Independent Study option for the coming school year.
Take care,
Daniel Hoffman
