October 23, 2020

Dear Dunham Families,

Last week I shared an important update about our reopening status.  I am sending it out again incase anyone missed it.  A link has been added to the message that shares a short video about reopening schools in Sonoma County.  Below the update are announcements about the Book Fair, Spirit Days, our pumpkin carving contest and a resource about a Halloween community event that offers a safe family activity.  Be sure to check these four things out.

Also attached is important information from the Petaluma People Service Center about community resources for childcare and rent support during the pandemic.

Dear Dunham Families,

I hope this message finds you safe and healthy.   I would like to offer you an update on Dunham’s reopening status.  Based on Governor Newsom’s executive order on July 17, 2020, Sonoma County continues to be in the purple tier (widespread) for COVID-19.  While Sonoma County is in the purple tier (the highest tier) Dunham will be unable to open.  Based on this information we will not be able to open in a hybrid model for on-campus instruction by the end of our 1st trimester as we had originally anticipated.

You might be seeing schools opening in counties around us and wonder why Sonoma County schools are not.  All the counties around us, with the exception of Mendocino County, have moved into the red or orange tiers.

It is our hope and goal to be able to open safely in a hybrid model once Sonoma County has moved to the red tier.  Once a county has moved to the red tier they are eligible  to open after 14 days of that county remaining in the red tier.   The School Board voted at the most recent meeting to set a reopening date of January 5, 2021.  This means we will remain in 100% distance learning through January 4th, 2021.  We will continue to monitor Sonoma County’s COVID-19 tier status over the next two months and update you on our plans moving forward.

This is by far the oddest school year I have every experienced and want to thank parents, students and staff for your resilience and for working daily to make the best of a difficult situation

Take care,

Daniel Hoffman

Superintendent / Principal
