Mrs. Tara Carter

3rd Grade Teacher

I started teaching at Dunham School in 2002, and have taught the 3rd through 6th grades.  For several years, I had the pleasure of teaching science to all the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.  I am currently teaching 3rd grade, and loving it.

In my classroom, I want students to strive to always do their best and to take on challenges.  I set high expectations for their learning, but provide a safe, supportive, reflective learning environment to help them achieve their goals.  At times, students are working quietly at their desks, but other times they are involved in active, hands-on projects.  I believe a variety of learning modalities are necessary to reach all the children in my classroom.

I received my B.S. in Biology and my teaching credential from Sonoma State University.  I student taught at Marguerite Hahn Elementary School in Rohnert Park.  I grew up in Penngrove, and attended school in Cotati and Rohnert Park.  Both of my parents were teachers, so I was born into the profession.

My husband and I were married in 2003.  Our daughter Kate was born in 2007, and the newest member of our family, Mae, was born in January 2013.  My husband is also a teacher in Petaluma.  Away from school, I enjoy playing with my daughters, reading, hiking, and bird watching.
