Programs at Dunham School

Along with the extensive curriculum/activity list that is a part of every classroom at Dunham, we take pride in the opportunity to provide a number of unique educational activities. These are listed below:

P.E. Specialist

We have a half time credentialed PE teacher who works with every class at least twice a week.

Music Program

Dunham is fortunate to work with the Mr. Music program weekly in "grade level specific" music instruction.

Drama teacher "Miss Dana" works with all grade levels for second trimester enrichment.  At the end of the second trimester, each grade level performs on stage at the Dunham PTO Pasta Feed event.

This year many of our teachers have been trained in the STRAW program. Together with the students and docents from several Bay area science environmental organizations, our students work to restore valuable watershed areas throughout Sonoma and Marin counties.

School Garden

With the help of many parent volunteers, our garden is flourishing. During the first and third trimesters, students work with garden coordinator, Ms. Lindsey, to grow starts from seed in the greenhouse, transplant, and maintain plants.  The produce is sold as a fundraiser at mini "farmers markets" in front of the school during dismissal, with the proceeds going back to the garden program. Check out the garden blog at!

After School Clubs

Dunham teachers share their hobbies and personal interests with students in 6 week sessions called "clubs." Examples include yoga, scrapbooking, "kindness club," drawing, field biology, math, and science.   We also have a variety of vendor run clubs throughout the year!

After School Sports

Grades 4 - 6 participate in a South County elementary league and compete against other schools in basketball, softball, volleyball and flag football.

Support Services: RSP, Speech/Language/Counseling

We are fortunate to have a strong support staff at Dunham to help every child meet his/her potential.

Week-long Science adventures in Yosemite (5/6)

Every other year our PTO supports a week-long trip for all our 5th and 6th graders at Yosemite Institute.

Walker Creek outdoor education (6th)

Along with all the other 6th grades in Petaluma our students have the opportunity to attend Walker Creek Outdoor School in the Spring where they have lots of science adventures, but they also get to meet the students they will be attending junior high and high school with.

Angel Island Civil War simulation(5th)

Every year our fifth grade students reenact the Civil War during an overnight camp on Angel Island, through the Living History Project.  Students even stand watch during the night!

Extensive field trip opportunities in every class
